Applying for an Italy visa? One of the most important requirements is a photograph that meets the specifications of the Italian embassy. If your photograph doesn’t meet these guidelines, it could delay the visa processing or even cause your application to be rejected.

We’ve created the VisaFast Italy visa photo maker to simplify the visa process. This tool automatically adjusts your photo’s size and background to meet the official Italy visa requirements.

We’ve also listed the official Italy visa photo requirements below.

Important Note: You must submit a recent photo taken within the last 6 months. Reusing an old visa photo can result in your application being rejected.

Resolution

Photo resolution should be 400 dpi, so, when the image is scanned or uploaded, check this parameter carefully. However, the higher the resolution, the bigger the picture. The photo must be in sharp focus, clear, undamaged and of high quality with no ink marks or creases

Technical Requirements

When completing online Italy visa applications, supporting documentation must adhere to specified technical requirements. Specifically, application photographs must be submitted in either JPG or JPEG format, and the file size should not exceed 120 KB. Applications submitted with files that are not supported, including those in BMP, TIFF, GIF, or PDF formats, may be rejected. Images may be black and white, color, or photographic grey scale.

Photograph Requirements

The submitted photograph must be produced on premium quality paper, requiring a minimum resolution of 600 DPI when viewed digitally. Color accuracy is critical, ensuring appropriate brightness and contrast for genuine color representation and the preservation of natural skin tones.

The photograph must depict the applicant solely, without inclusion of any other individuals or extraneous objects within the image.

Note: Digital photographs, to meet the necessary standards, should be a high resolution, color image printed upon photo-quality paper.

Photograph Requirements

The photograph submitted for an Italy visa application should feature a plain, light-colored background to ensure distinct visibility of facial details and clear contrast.

Specifically, a medium grey background is recommended for individuals with light hair, while a light grey background is suitable for those with dark hair. The background must be devoid of any patterns or shadows.

Crucially, the visa photograph must be borderless with no additional margins. Compliance with this requirement ensures the image adheres to all official formatting specifications, rendering it suitable for biometric data capture and processing.
